What is enmeshment?
Everyone in the family interferes and is overly involved in everyone else’s decisions, feelings, wishes and behaviours.
What are the life cycle crises?
Infancy Toddlerhood Preschool and middle school Adolescence Young adult Middle adulthood Maturity
What is diffusion?
A family is diffuse when members are not clear about who is to do what.
What is disengagement?
Distance is the pattern. The rule in these families is not to get too close emotionally or socially.
What is rigidity?
Rigid boundaries. Spouses and children are treated only one way.
What is evolutional crises?
Through which families go through as the years pass.
What are the stages of an evolutional crisis?
Creating a marital subsystem

What is anorexia nervosa?
An intense fear of gaining weight, refusal to maintain adaquate nutrition.
What is Belinda nervosa?
Binge eating and purging
What characteristics do individuals with eating disorders have in common?
- Are highly emotional reserved and cognitively inhibited.
- Prefer routine, orderly, predictable environments and adapt poorly to change.
- Show heightened conformity and deference to others.
- Avoid risk and react to appetitive or affectively stressful events with strong feelings or distress.
- Focus on perfectionism, negative self evaluation, and fears of becoming an adult.
