What was the purpose of the Albany Plan of Union?
Ben Franklin wanted the colonies to work together.
What were the Townshend Acts and how did the colonists respond to them?
Under the Townshend Acts, Britain could not tax the items inside the colonies. The colonists rejoiced until Britain started taxing tea.
What was the purpose of the Second Continental Congress
They set up the Continental Army, made George Washington the general of it, then made currency.
What was the Olive Branch Petition?
It said that the colonists were loyal to the king.
Describe the “shot heard around the world.”
No one knows who shot it. It was the first shot of the American revolution. It was shot in Lexington.
What was the purpose of the Stamp Act?
The Stamp Act required that all colonists buy special taxed stamps for all products.
What was the purpose of the First Continental Congress?
They wanted to form an alliance with the Native Americans.
Why did the British feel that the colonists should help pay back the debt from the French and Indian War?
They had to keep soldiers in the colonies. They also had debts from protecting the colonists.
Who were the Green Mountain boys?
The Green Mountain Boys were a group that made a sneak attack on Fort Ticonderoga.
Which law declared that the colonists were not allowed to settle past the Appalachian Mountains?
The Proclamation of 1763.
Why did the colonists resent the Tea Act?
They did not like the high taxes and that it made the British East Indian company a monopoly.
Why were Breed’s Hill and Bunker Hill important positions to hold?
From the tops of those hills, they could fire on British ships.
Why did the colonists lose the Battle of Bunker Hill?
They ran out of ammo.
Who were the Patriots and what fraction of the colonists were Patriots?
The patriots were against British government. 2/5 of the population were patriots.
Who were the Loyalists and what fraction of the colonists were Loyalists?
The Loyalists were loyal to the king. 1/5 of the population were patriots.
Describe the different ways the colonists protested the British policies.
They boycotted. They also did the Boston Tea Party.
What was the Sugar Act?
It put taxes on manassess. The honey like substance.
What conclusion can you make about how the Continental Congress felt about independence.
They wanted to be free so badly that they fought the most well known army and enemy in the world.

A group of acts that were so awful the colonists called them Intolerable.

What effect did the Boston Massacre have on colonial resistance to British policies?
The British repealed all of the Townshed Acts.

Court orders that allowed officials to make searches without saying what they were searching for.
Why did the colonists feel that the British did not have the right to tax them?
They had no representation.
Why did the colonists oppose the Quartering Act?
They did not want the British in their homes.
What is a blockade?
The shutting off of a port by ships to keep supplies from moving in or out.
Define a monopoly. How did the term monopoly apply to the situation concerning the Tea Act in this chapter?
Monopoly; the total control of a market for a certain product. The British East Indian Tea Company was a monopoly.
Were the boycotts successful against the British? Explain.
During the Townshend Act it was. The British did not want to start a war.
