Proactive policing
when a law enforcement agency or police attempt to prevent crimes before they occur in a given area,

is an individualistic perspective of police corruption that views police deviance as the work of isolated individuals (“rotten apples”) who evade detection during the screening and selection process.
Zero tolerance policing
a policing strategy that involves relentless order maintenance and aggressive law enforcement, against even minor crimes and incivilities.
Community policing
promotes organizational strategies that support the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of crime.
Compstat
or computer statistics leverages technology through data to allow law enforcement to make informed decisions, make a timely analysis of crime patterns and hot spots, and gauge the effectiveness of solutions implemented through the philosophy of Community Policing.
Reactive policing
when a law enforcement agency responds to the call from a citizen for service.
Police subculture
the beliefs, behaviors, and values that are typically associated with those that are police officers.
Racial profiling
the act of suspecting, targeting or discriminating against a person on the basis of their ethnicity, religion or nationality, rather than on individual suspicion or available evidence.
Routine activity
based on the assumption that crime can be committed by anyone who has the opportunity. The theory also states that victims are given choices on whether to be victims mainly by not placing themselves in situations where a crime can be committed against them.
Victimless prosecution
an illegal act that typically either directly involves only the perpetrator or occurs between consenting adults.
