Drive theory focuses on certain biological needs that are basic to life. The arousal theory asserts that need for stimulation changes according to past experience and present condition. The Maslow theory places needs in a hierarchy from most basic to most complex.

Maslow’s hierarchy could be used to determine where people’s needs are most acute at a given moment in time.
