Chapter 4 second half Flashcards
HPPM (health program planning models) theory
HPPM
Find and implement evidence-based interventions/curriculum
Rooted in theories
Theories try to explain what influences health behavior
Transtheoretical model (stages of Change)
Precontemplation - Contemplation - Preparation - Action - Maintenance Termination
Precontemplation
not aware of problem
Contemplation
thinking about problem
Preparation
deciding to take action
Maintenance
sticking to the change for 6 months or more
Termination
imbedded practice or have stopped behavior
BART (becoming a responsible teen)
relies on many years of learning about what is needed to change behavior. It is based on the knowledge that information and awareness are preconditions that set the stage for change and that people learn by seeing others model the desired behaviors and values
empowerment model
Empowering participants helps them feel more powerful, thus freeing them to make healthier behavioral and life choices.
Shared problem
Shared specific interest
Shared residence
what if there is no theory in HPPM
theory = no assurance that changes in behavior, environment, and/or society will occur.
6 generic tasks of HPPMs
- Assess the needs of the priority population
- Identify the problem
- Develop appropriate goals and objectives
- Find evidence-based intervention/curricula that are likely to achieve desired results (Behavior change theories are rooted in evidence-based interventions).
- Implement the intervention
- Evaluate the results
