What is the source?
The beginning of the river.
What is the mouth?
The end of the river. It opens to the sea.
What is a tributary?
A stream flowing into a larger stream or river.
What is a meander?
A curve or bend in a river that is formed due to both depositional and erosional processes.
What is an ox-bow lake?
A curved lake that was originally a bend in a river.
What is hydraulic action?
When the sheer force of water smashes against the river banks. Air becomes trapped in the cracks of the river bank and causes the rock to break apart.
What is Abrasion?
When pebbles grind along the river bank and bed
What is Attrition?
When rocks that the river is carrying knock against each other. They break apart and become smoother, more rounded rocks.
What is Solution?
Soluble particles are dissolved into the river.
What is Traction?
Large boulders and rocks are rolled along the river bed,
What is Saltation?
Small pebbles and stones are bounced along the river bed
What is Suspension?
Fine light material is carried along in the water.
What is Solution ( Transportation )?
Minerals are dissolved in the water and are carried along in solution.
