. 316,000 died . 300,000 were injured . Buildings and homes collapsed . Water and food supplies were very low . A prison also collapsed, this allowed 4,000 inmates to escape . The port was severely damaged
What were the secondary impacts of the Haiti earthquake?
. 300,000 were homeless
. Disease Cholera spread through camps
. Economic losses increased due to factories being closed and tourism stopping
. Looting and crime increased even more because of the government and the police force collapsed.
What were the immediate responses?
. Temporary houses and hospitals were put up
. International Aid in the form of search and rescue teams were flown into the country to help people trapped by the quake
. Essential supplies were brought in.
. UN nations and U.S troops provided law and order
What were the long term responses?
. The government moved 250,000 people form Port- au - Prince to less damaged cities
. 3/4 of the damaged buildings were repaired
