Chapter 4 powerpoint Flashcards
Define tissue
group of special cells with similar structures and functions
Define Mulitcellularity
many cells that share function
what are the 4 basic types of tissue and their functions
Epithelial - cover
Connective - support
Muscle - movement
Nerve - control
Define Epitheilal tissue
Sheet of cells that covers the body surface/lines of a body cavity.
What is the function of connective tissue?
To provide support for our soft organs, store fat, produce blood, and connect our body parts.
Name the types of connective tissue
Fibrous and Specialized connective tissue.
Define Matrix
The cell material within the cell that gives connective tissue its characteristics
What are the 4 types of fibrous connective tissues?
Loose, Dense, Elastic, and Reticular
What are the four types of specialized connective tissues?
Caritalige, Bone, Blood and Adipose tissue.
What are the types of muscle tissue?
Sketetal, cardiac, and smooth.
Define muscle tissue
Muscles are myocytes that contain microfilaments that allow contractions and movements of the muscle.
What is the Nervous Tissue?
The nervous tissue is made up of neutrons; its function is to generate and conduct nerve impulses.
What is the Nervous Tissue?
The nervous tissue is made up of neutrons; its function is to generate and conduct nerve impulses.
The Nerve Tissue’s second cell type’s function is?
Is to insulate and protect the neurons.
Organs are described as?
Strcutures created by one or more tissue types, joining together to undergo a specfic function.
What is the organ system described as?
group of organs together that serve a broad function
how many organs are in the human body?
11 organs in the human body
Skin is an organ what are it’s functions?
To prevent dehydration, abrasion, and invasion.
Synthesizes Vitamin D and Regulates body Temp.
What are the layers in our skin?
Epidermis, Dermis, Hypodermis
Homeostatis
Relative consistency within our internal enivorment.
What are the 3 bodily planes?
Midsagittal, Tranverse, and Frontal
Midsagittal can be described as ?
Midsagittal as the left and right side of the body.
Transverse can be described as? Describe it in detail.
Upper and lower parts of the body
Distal ( further away from the body trunk )
Promixal ( nearer to the body trunk)
Frontal can be described as? Describe it in detail.
The front and back parts of the body.
Posterior (at or near the front)
Proximal ( at or near the back)
Describe tranverse in detail? Describe it in detail.
Divides the body up/down
Superior (situated above )
Inferior (situated below)
What is homeostasis? Relative consistency within our internal enviorment.
