Q

What is attribution theory, and why kinds of attributes can one make?

A

Attribution theory is a group of theories that explain the causes of their behavior. There are two different types of attributes one can make: personal and situational.
A personal attribute is using the person’s internal character traits to justify their behavior, such as personality, mood, ability, or effort.
A situational attribute is an attribution to an external actor, such as task, other people, or luck.

Q

What is fundamental attribution error? Give an example of it.

A

Funamental attribution error is the tendency to focus on the role of personal causes and underestimate the impact of situation’s on other people’s behavior. An example of FAE is blaming a coworker for being late due to being unreliable, rather than them getting stuck in traffic or their car not starting.
