Chapter 4 Mitosis Flashcards
What is Cell Division?
Organisms can use cell division to reproduce sexually or asexually
Molecule that stores hereditary information (deoxyribonucleic acid)
DNA
DNA wrapped its own protein which looks like a diffused structure (non dividing)
Chromatin
Condensed structure (found in a dividing cell) constriction point in the center
Chromosome
Constriction point dividing the chromosome into 2 sections
Centromere
When a chromosome replicates itself held together by the centromere
Sister Chromatid
One of two identical halves of a replicated chromosome
Chromatid
Protein that appears during cell division on each sister chromatic structure
Kinetochore
Haploid Cells
Have 23 chromosomes haploid only contains 1 set of chromosomes and half the chromosomes of diploid cells
Diploid cell
Have 2 complete sets of chromosomes in them (written as 2n (n= number of chromosomes)) 46 chromosomes in a diploid cell
Somatic cells
All of our bodies cells except gametes
Gametes
Reproductive cell (Ex: Sperm and eggs)
Organelle that regulates the cell division (in animal cells) consists of 2 centrioles
Centrosomes
Centrioles
Help organize micro tubes in animal crlls
