What was the pacific scandal?
JAM needed money for re-election campaign, he went to HUGH ALLEN for support and promised him a railway contract. Made country and Canada feel distrust and he was forced to RESIGN. Caused a lot of debt
What was the national policy?
Economic program introduced by JAM:
1) protective tariffs: taxes applied to USA goods making CAN goods cheaper
2) immigration to west: bring in farmers, produce and export wheat
3) CPR: transport goods and people, ships goods in Canada to Asia
What was the Canadian pacific railway?
Connected Canada from coast to coast. Transported goods and people and troops. Protected the nation

1) helped finish the railway faster
2) caused lots of debt but cut expenses by hiring CHEAP CHINESE WORKERS
