Chapter 4: Measurement Flashcards
Artifact
A misrepresentation of the behavior due to the way it is measured.
Celeration
Rate/time
Example: 30 hand raises/5 minutes/1 day
Count
How many times did the behavior occur?
AKA: Frequency
Example: Got out of seat 5 times
Discrete Trial
A single cycle of instruction that may be repeated several times until a skill is mastered.
Duration
Total time behavior occurred.
Example: Student was out of seat for 3 minutes
Event Recording
A method for measuring the number of times a behavior occurs.
Example: Frequency, rate, celeration.
Free Operant
Behaviors that are free to occur at any time and have a clear beginning and end.
Frequency
Total numer of times a behavior occurred.
AKA: Count
Example: Got out of seat 5 times.
Interresponse Time (IRT)
How much time is between each instance of the same behavior.
Example: Time between getting out of seat and getting out of seat again.
Latency
Time between the SD and the initiation of the behavior.
Example: Time between giving a direction and compliance.
Magnitude
The strength, severity, force, or intensity of the behavior.
Measurement
Data collection on various skills and behaviors.
Measurement by Permanent Product
Observer is not present when the behavior occurs. The data is secondhand and can be collected in the form of interviews, questionnaires, etc.
Example: An empty dishwasher.
Momentary Time Sampling
How many intervals did the behavior occur at the end of the interval?
Partial Interval Recording
How many intervals did the behavior occur for any part of the interval?
Percentage
Number correct/number possibilities x 100
PLACHECK
MTS for data on group behavior.
Rate
Frequency/Time
Example: Cursed 5 times in 5 minutes.
Repeatability
We are able to count the behavior because the responses repeat through time.
Frequency and Rate
Temporal Extent
The extent of time that the behavior occurs that can be measured between every behavior that occurs for some period of time.
Duration
Temporal Locus
Every behavior occurs in time with relation to other behaviors, and the location of response is based on time.
IRT and Latency
Time Sampling
Taking data using time intervals.
Topography
The shape/form of a behavior.
Trials to Criterion
How many trials/attempts did it take to achieve a predetermined level of performance or goal?
Whole Interval Recording
How many intervals did the behavior occur for the entire interval?
