Chapter 4 - Maintenance and Engineering Flashcards
4.1.4 Remote Outport Maintenance
Network Aviation currently has 3 approved remote Maintenance Facilities ?
Darwin, Broome and Karratha
4.1.4 Remote Outport Maintenance
A Maintenance Facility is defined as an airport where there is ?
- Staff
- Equipment; and,
- Spare parts are available to repair or replace inoperative
equipment.
Note - Any maintenance carried out by engineering staff at a non-approved maintenance facility requires special permission.
This NSLR (Non-Specific Location Requirement) process does not apply to F100 Flight Crew Maintenance (FCM)
4.1.4 Remote Outport Maintenance
How are pilots to manage an Engineering issue at a non-approved maintenance base ?
It is emphasised that the sole role of this engineer at a non-approved maintenance base is to avoid an A.O.G situation and not to carry out repairs or maintenance which are not absolutely necessary. If any abnormality or defect is identified at a non-approved maintenance base, irrespective of the fact that an engineer is on-site, the pilot must first attempt to treat the defect as if the Engineer was not on-site and in consultation with Maintenance Watch and ROC, carry out any FCM as required (F100
only) and apply the appropriate MEL. Only if Maintenance Watch or the P.I.C. decide that the aircraft is unserviceable, should the on-site engineer become involved.
4.2.3 Cabin Defect Reports
Cabin Crew are required to report to the PIC, defects associated with any of the normal and emergency equipment located on an aircraft. All airworthiness defects will be written into the ?
Maintenance Technical Log
4.2.3 Cabin Defect Reports
Items such as unserviceable passenger service items, etc. may be deferred as a XXXX or a XXX ?
Not an Airworthiness Defect (NAD) or a Non- Airworthiness Significant Item (NASI)
4.2.3 Cabin Defect Reports
While defects within the cabin are reported as above, the Cabin Condition Log (CAM2211) is to be used by the Cabin Crew, Flight Crew or Engineers to record ?
Minor discrepancies
4.3.1 Flight Deck Engineering Manual (F100)
The Flight Deck Engineering Manual (F100) is stored on the Company DMS. Staff members are to refer to this manual as a source of information regarding:
- Pre-flight inspections;
- Authorisation for Pilot maintenance;
- Ramp Service Check (RSC);
- Flight Technical Log (FTL) documentation procedures;
- Minimum Equipment List (MEL), Deferred Within Limits (DWL), Not an Airworthiness Defect (NAD), Permissible Unserviceability (PU) and Special Flight Permit (SFP) application processes;
- Aircraft Library;
- Aircraft taxiing and engine running by LAMEs;
- Emergency Equipment and the Layout of Passenger Accommodation (LOPA);
- Special Inspections;
- Post Maintenance Activities; and
- Magnetic fuel-level indicator procedures.
4.3.2 Authorisation of Maintenance by Flight Crew – F100
Under no circumstances should authorised Pilot maintenance be carried out when at a base with an ?
Approved AMO, irrespective of conflicting advice from Maintenance Watch or any other party
4.3.3 Ramp Service Check – F100
The RSC is a defined check that constitutes the required daily maintenance tasks to comply with the Aircraft Maintenance Program. It is required to be carried out by an NAA CAMO approved AMO every …?
Once every calendar day that the aircraft is in service.
Note: It is not necessary that the RSC be performed prior to the first flight of the day provided it is performed sometime throughout that calendar day
4.3.5 Flight Technical Log – F100
Only …….. are permitted to remove the FTL from the Flight Deck?
authorised maintenance personnel
4.3.5 Flight Technical Log – F100
Where a return to gate prior to take-off is required, an entry as a sector must be made and final fuel recorded. TRUE or FALSE ?
True
4.3.7.1 Aircraft Defect Recording
Whenever a defect is entered on the MTL, a new CRS will be required, unless the defect can be appropriately deferred by Flight Crew. TRUE or FALSE ?
TRUE
4.3.7.1 Aircraft Defect Recording
If a Captain refuses to operate an aircraft that is declared
airworthy or the conditions of an approved deferral action cannot be met from an operational perspective, the Captain must immediately notify, who ?
The ROC or the Duty Pilot
of the justification for doing so
4.3.8.1 Authority to Apply a MEL
Who can apply a MEL in the following circumstances:
1. For MEL items which can be invoked without a maintenance action (FCM or M)
2. For MEL items with a (FCM) maintenance action
3. For MEL items which require maintenance (M) action
- the PIC or an appropriate LAME are approved to apply the MEL
- the PIC (who holds an APM) or an appropriate LAME are approved to apply the MEL
- only an appropriate LAME is approved to apply the MEL
4.3.9.1 Not an Airworthiness Defect (NAD)
A NAD deferral may be utilised for defects that are not airworthiness related and are not covered by the MEL. TRUE or FALSE
TRUE
4.3.10 Deferred within Limits (DWL)
Some defects identified on an aircraft can be assessed and found to be within the allowable limits published by the OEM.
An appropriate LAME is required to approve a defect deferral under DWL. Can a pilot approve a defect deferral under DWL ?
NO
4.3.11.2 Authority to Apply a CDL
The CDL contains limitations for operation of the aircraft
with certain secondary airframe and engine cowl parts missing. Although not part of the MEL, the CDL will authorise continued aircraft operation provided all limitations, revised operational procedures and any maintenance functions that are listed in the
CDL are complied with.
True or False - Only an approved AMO employee (LAME) is authorised to defer a defect in accordance with the CDL
TRUE
4.3.12.2 Application of a Permissible Unserviceability
Under the provisions of regulation 37 of CAR 1988 (defects) and regulation 21.007 of CASR 1998 (damage) an aircraft may be approved to operate with the defect deferred or the damage not repaired. Permission may be granted in the form of a PU issued by
CASA, a CASA delegate or an authorised person.
True or False - A PU can be applied by an LAME or the PIC of an aircraft under direction from the CAMO.
TRUE
