Chapter - 4 Humidity and Atmospheric Stability Flashcards
What happens in Relative Humidity?
Warmer air = greater maximum water vapor possible
Cooler air = lesser maximum water vapor possible
EX:
20% relative humidity = 5 PM
50% relative humidity = 11AM
100% relative humidity = 5 AM
What are the adiabatic Processes?
Dry adiabatic rate (DAR)
Moist Adiabatic rate (MAR)
Stable and unstable atmospheric conditions
What is Buoyancy?
The ability or tendency to float in water or air or some other fluid
If there is lower air pressure…
There is lower density and a buoyancy force for the air parcel from earth’s surface
If there is higher air pressure…
There is higher density and a gravitational force to the air parcel from earth’s surface
What is the cooling by expansion through adiabatic process?
Air parcel cools internally as it expands under lower air pressure from Earth’s surface
