Chapter 4 Ecosystems and communities Flashcards
Climate
Average, Year to year conditions of temperature and precipitation in a particular region
Weather
day to day condition of Earths atmosphere at a particular time and place.
Green house effect
Carbon dioxide, methne, water vapor, and few other atmospheric gases trap heat energy and maintain Earth’s temperature range.
Polar Zones
Cold areas where the suns ray strikes earth at a very low angles. These angles are located in the areas around the North and South poles
Temperate Zone
Between polar and tropics. because temperature zones are more affected by the changing angles of the sun over the course of the year. has seasons
Tropical Zone
or tropics, is near the equator, it receives direct or direct sunlight year round
Bioti
Living organisms within an ecosystem
Abiotic Factors
Nonliving factors that affect the ecosystem
Predation
one organism captires and feed on another organism
Symbiosis
Any relationship where organisms live close together
Mutualism
Both species benefit from the relationship
Commensalism
one member of the association benefits and the other is not affected
Parasitism
One organism lives on or inside another organim and harms it
Ecological Succesion
Series of predictable changes that occurs in a community over time
Primary succesion
No soil
