Chapter 4- Anne Hendershott Flashcards
Summary of the Morality of Deviance by Anne Hendershott
In this article, Hendershott redefines and constructs deviance based on moral values and codes. She challenges how deviant behaviors are medicalized and how deviant acts lacks to incorporate responsibility and aiming at societal justice. Instead she states that deviance has blurred the lines between what is good and what is evil. Hendershott has a firm belief that in order to keep society stabilized, protect individuals from moral panic, and maintain and establish may systems of morality that sociologists, politicians and society should adopt a sin-based model. The sin-based model will enforce what is right and what is wrong. This will ultimately create a society which is geared to the common good.
