How did the civil rights movement begin?
The civil rights movement started in the 1950s when returning African American veterans from World War II demanded equal rights between races.
What was the American civil rights movement?
It was a movement aimed to end racial segregation. They wanted all people, white, black, yellow, Hispanic people to be equal however the civil rights mainly focused on black people.
What were the main accomplishments of the movement?
It allowed blacks the right to vote, to eat, to shop and swim where they pleased but more importantly to attend integrated schools.
What were the setbacks of the movement?
Despite the many accomplishments many people, both young and old lost their lives, homes, jobs and families. Other individuals were left with psychological and emotional trauma and more importantly racism remained alive well after the movement had ended.
