Pesticide (ministerial) regulation
States that to sell pesticides in Alberta you must have a valid agrochemical warehousing standards association warehouse certification or a pesticide vendor registration
Wholesale registration
Sale of schedule 1, 2, and 3 pesticides to other wholesale pesticides vendors or retail pesticides vendors
Retail registration
Sale of schedule 1 and 2 pesticides to the end user
Pesticide vendor registration
Issued to a company who employs at least one certified dispenser or a certified pesticide applicator
Dispenser assistants
Can also be working when the vendor is open to meet the requirements
Display rules
Schedules 1 and 2 may no be displayed, 3 may not be displayed in grocery store, 4 can be anywhere
Retail pesticide vendor
Can only sell pesticides described in schedule 1 and 2 to specific people
Agricultural fieldmen
Conduct sales of herbicides to rural acreage owners
Pesticide applicator certificate
Must hold to purchase or use schedule 1 or 2 or in specific locations for 3. Usually awarded for a 5 year period
Pesticide vendor records
-Name and address
-Name of pesticide
-Total quantity of pesticide
-Date of sale
-If the purchaser is a vendor
Application near water
Within 30 metres of an open body of water
Environmental code of practice for pesticides
-The active ingredients that can be used
-Max area that can be treated
-Application method
-The distance to the water
-Other conditions specific to site
The normal high mark
Where the vegetation changes from aquatic vegetation to terrestrial vegetation
1 metre from normal high mark
10% of any 100 square metres can be sprayed within the calendar year
5 metres from the normal high mark
30% of any 100 square metres can be sprayed within the calendar year
Herbicide to control aquatic vegetation
Applications can only be made to man made recreational lakes by someone holding an aquatic pesticide applicator certificate. Swimming banned for 48 hours
Insecticide to control structural pests near water
May be used up to the bed and shore of an open bond of water
