Chapter 4 Flashcards
It’s a push or a pull; the units of this is newton - N
Force
4 forces -
Gravitational force
Electromagnetic force
Strong nuclear force
Weak nuclear force
It’s property - attraction force between all objects
Range - infinite
Gravitational force
It’s property - comes form the electric charge of particles
Range - infinite
Electromagnetic force
It’s property - holds the nucleus of atoms together
Range - 10 ^ -15
Strong nuclear force
Property - holds neutrons together
Range - 10 ^ -18
Weak nuclear force
When no forces act on a body, will either remain at rest or continue to move along a straight line w a constant speed
Law of inertia
It’s the tendency of a body to keep doing what it is doing
Inertia
A measure of inertia -
Mass
The force of gravity on an object
Weight
Relationship between mass and weight -
Fw = Mg
Force that is produced by a support that exactly balances the objects weight
Normal force
Diagram showing the magnitude and direction of all the forces acting on a chosen object
Free-body diagram
Net force
The combination of all forces acting on an object
Equilibrium -
When the net force = 0
