Program
Custom software application that’s owned and controlled by the company that created it.
Proprietary (commercial) software
Program code made publicly for free: it can be copied, distributed or changed without the stringent copyright protections of proprietary software products.
Open source program
Apps installed on your computing device that usually do not require an internet connection.
Local App
Apps installed on mobile devices (such as tablets or phones). Usually these apps require an internet connection to provide full functionality.
Mobile Apps
A program that is hosted on a website and that doesn’t require installation on the computer.
Web-based apps
Software that’s delivered on demand over the Internet.
Software as a Service. (Sass)
A collection of software programs that have been bundled together as a package.
Software Suite
Programs such as Microsoft outlook or Lotus organizer that strive to replace the various management tools found on a traditional desk such as a calendar, address book, notepad and to-do lists.
Personal information manager (PIM) software
A step by step guide that walks a user through the necessary steps to complete a complicated task.
Wizard
A form included in many productivity applications that provides the basic structure for a particular kind of document. Spreadsheet or presentation.
Template
A Small Program that Groups a series of commands to run as a single command.
Macro
Software that is developed for and customized to a specific industry’s needs, (Such as a wood inventory system for a sawmill)
Vertical Market Software
Programs that include image, video and audio editing software, animation software and other specialty software required to produce computer games, animations and movies.
Multimedia Sofrware
Programs for editing photographs and other images
Image editing software
