Definition of a strong acid?
A strong acid completely dissociates in aqueous solution.
Definition of a weak acid?
A weak acid only partially dissociates in aqueous solution. (Shown with a reversible reaction arrow)
Definition of a base?
A base neutralises an acid to form a salt.
Definition of an alkali?
An alkali is a type of base which can dissolve in water and neutralises an acid to form a salt.
Acid + Alkali = ?
Salt + water
What must ionic equations keep?
Solids and molecules, any liquids/gases, and the ions linked to them
Acid + metal = ?
Salt + hydrogen
Acid + metal oxide/hydroxide = ?
Salt + water
Acid + metal carbonate = ?
Salt + water + carbon dioxide
Definition of concordant?
Results are in 0.1cm cubed of each other.
Definition of an oxidation number?
A set of rules for atoms: the no. electrons involved in bonding to another element.
