Chapter 4 Flashcards
Transmit
talking, or “on time”
Receive
listening, or “off time”
Pulse Duration
The time from the start of a pulse to the end of the pulse; a single transmit, talking, or “on” time
Units: µs, ms
Typical values: .2 to 2 µs
Spatial Pulse Length
distance from the start to the end of a pulse; (distance that a pulse occupies in space)
Units: mm
Typical values: .3-3 mm
Determined by the sound source and the medium
Pulse Repetition Period
The time from the start of one pulse to the start of the next pulse
Units: ms
Typical values: 100 µs to 1 ms
Pulse Repetition Frequency
the number of pulses that an US system transmits into the body each second
Units: KHz
Typical value: 1-10 kHz
Determined by the sound source (imaging depth)
Duty Factor
Is the percentage of time that the system is transmitting a pulse
Units: represented as a percentage
Typical values: .2% to .5%; .002 to .005
