D: The legal status of belonging to a particular nation
Ex: Being Singaporean or Malaysian
A: People of the same nationality usually share common experiences, attitudes and beliefs, practices, helping to build a snese of belonging to their national identity
CONTRIBUTING TO IDENTITY AND DIVERSITY: Race and Ethnicity
D: Race is defined as the classification of people based on their biological appearance. Ethnicity refers to one’s ancestry, cultural practices, language, customs, food and dressings that are associated with an ethinic group
Ex: Race such as Malay or Chinese/Ethinic groups such as Batak, Dayak
A: Shapes the way of life of a person through practices and beliefs, influencing their experiences and shaping one’s identity
CONTRIBUTING TO IDENTITY AND DIVERSITY: Religion
D: Organised collection of attitudes, beliefs and practices and world worship of a single or multiple gods.
Ex: In Buddhism, they promote peace and harmony amongst different races and religions, non violence and the appreaciation of all living things in the world
A: It shapes the way we interact with others, the choices that are being made as well as one’s thinking and beliefs.
CONTRIBUTING TO IDENTITY AND DIVERSITY: Socio-economic status
D: The economic situation shared by a group of people that is determined by income, education, occupation as well as ownership of wealth
Ex: People with higher SES are able to carry out activities like golf, polo, fine dining and travelling to further locations while people with middle SES are able to enjoy activities such as swimming and basketball
A: Different groups of SES can access different actvities, influencing their circle of friends, social network and and experiences, influencing one’s habits and values.
