Haute couture
French term meaning ‘high sewing/fashion’ and refers to a standard of work that was expected
Ready-to-wear (pret-a-porter)
Between haute couture and mass market. Not made for individual customers, but great care is taken in the cut and choice of the fabric and are made in small numbers
Mass market
Simpler manufacturing techniques and cheaper fabrics allow manufacturers to keep costs down
Accessories
Any item that adds to an outfit in a secondary way
Fashion house
A company specializing in the design and sale of high-fashion clothing and accessories e.g Dior, Louis Vuitton
Fashion forecaster
Predicts colours, fabrics, textures, materials, prints, beauty, accessories, footwear etc that will be presented on the runway and in shops in the upcoming season
Pattern drafter
Creates patterns by taking measurements from a person or model
