Dwight D. “Ike” Eisenhower
The 34th President of the US (1953-61) and a famous general. His popular name was Ike. He was the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in World War II and directed the Allies’plans for D-Day.
U-boat
A German submarine, named for the German Unterseeboot, or “under-sea boat,” which proved deadly for Allied ships in the war zone. U-boat attacks played an important role in drawing the United States into the war.
