What is the Lymphatics?
-An accumulation of lymph nodes and channels connecting them. - A filtering system for the blood stream.
What do the lymph nodes do?
Filter fluid and produce lymphocytes to combat infections.
What nodes are located beneath the chin?
Submental Nodes
What do the submental nodes do?
Drain the mandibular incisors, tip of tongue, and midline of lower lip and chin.
What node is a long gland near the angle of the mandible?
Submandibular nodes
What do the submandibular nodes do?
Drain the max. Teeth and sinus, man. Canines, mand. Posteriors, floor of mouth, tongue, cheek, hard palate, and ant. Nasal cavity.
What is Lymphadenopathy?
Enlargement and tenderness of submandibular nodes.
What nodes are located on the lateral surface of internal jugular vein and lay next to SCM muscle about 2 inches below ear?
Upper deep cervical nodes
What does the Upper Deep Cervical nodes drain?
3 molar region
What nodes are located beside SCM about 2 inches above the clavicle?
Lower deep cervical
What does the lower deep cervical nodes drain?
Upper deep as well as occipital nodes.
How does cancer spread?
Through the nodes and into the blood stream. ( 1 degree nodes-2 degree nodes- 3 degree nodes- blood stream)
Dental infections also spread via what?
Fascial spaces or (fascial planes)
What are fascial spaces?
Spaces between muscle and tissue layers.
What is periodontal space infections?
Swelling of gingival or mucosal tissues.
