Anatomy Chapter 34 pt 2 Flashcards
Leaves skull via foramen rotundum and supplies upper teeth, oral cavity, skin of cheek/temporal region. And divides into different divisions at or in pterygopalatine fossa
V2
Supplies maxillary buccal gingiva of premolars/molars. Supplies up to MB root of 1st moose but not the MB root
Posterior superior alveolar (PSA)
Supplies lateral walls of nasal cavity and enters anterior palate as nasopalatine nerve via incisive foramen
Sphenopalatine
Multiple branches to ganglion
Pterygopalatine nerves
What are the 2 branches of the descending palatine
Lesser palatine and greater palatine
Soft palate
Lesser palatine
Mucosa or posterior hard palate
Greater palatine
Supplies skin over the cheek/temple
Zygomatic
Exits via infraorbital foramen, supplies skin of nose, lower eyelid, skin and mucosa of upper lip and max labial gingiva
Infraorbital
What are the branches of infraorbital
Middle superior alveolar and anterior superior alveolar
Middle superior alveolar
Premolars
Anterior superior alveolar
Max incisors
Leaves skull through foramen ovale
V3
What are the nerves of the V3
Buccal, lingual, inferior alveolar, auriculotemporal
Spreads on surface of buccinator muscle and has long buccal nerve
Buccal nerve
Supplies buccal mandibular gingiva up to mental foramen
Long buccal nerve
Largest branch of V3, sensation to floor of mouth, lingual mandibular gingiva, and anterior 2/3 of tongue. Joins chorda tympani
Lingual nerve
Branch of CN VII supplies submandibular/sublingual glands and also carries taste perception to anterior 2/3 of tongue
Chorda tympani
Serves lower teeth, mylohyoid nerve branches and supplies mylohyoid muscle, enters mandible via mandibular foramen, mental nerve branches and goes through mental foramen to supply mucosa of lip and labial gingiva in anterior mandible
Inferior alveolar nerve
Runs backwards to supply area above and in front of the ear
Auriculotemporal nerve
What are the branches of facial VII
Temporal, zygomatic, buccal, mandibular, cervical
Supplies platysma muscle
Cervical
Exists via stylomastoid foramen and travels through parotid gland. Supplies muscles of facial expression
Facial VII
Exits with vagus and accesory nerves through jugular foramen. Branches to stylopharyngeal muscle and constrictors of pharynx. Also a branch to the posterior 1/3 of tongue
Glossoplaryngeal IX
