What is the definition of a tissue?
A tissue is a group of cells with similar structure and function.
What is the definition of an organ?
Organs are collections of tissues performing specific functions.
What is the definition of organ systems?
Organs are organised into organ systems, which work together to form organisms.
How is the stomach adapted for its function?
The stomach secretes acid and enzymes that digest food. Ridges of muscle tissue called rugae line the stomach. The stomach muscles contract periodically, churning food to enhance digestion. The pyloric sphincter(2nd sphincter) is a muscular valve that opens to allow food to pass from the stomach to the small intestine.
What is the definition of a specialised cell?
Specialised cells are cells that have developed certain characteristics to perform a particular function. Example: Red blood cells . Function - Red blood cells carry oxygen around the body when it is bound to a protein called haemoglobin.
