Why was the Nile river necessary for the Egyptians?
-the cataracts in the river slowed the advances of invaders
-the river provided food and water
-the river was a useful highway for transportation. It flowed through the Sahara desert. The Sahara also helped protect Egyptians from invaders.
Define a cataract and how many are in the Nile
Cataracts are sections of the mile river that become very shallow and rocky. This slowed down invaders attacking from the south. There are six cataracts in the path of the Nile.
Explain the Beliefs behind the Nile River
The ancient Egyptians believed that the Nile was a gift from the gods. They believe a God poured out the waters for them. Egypt honored the Nile and gave thanks to it. They gave it the nickname “Hapi” which means well fed or fat repeating back to the section of about how the Nile was a gift from the gods to supply them.
