Chapter 31 Flashcards
What are four types of tissues?
Epithelial, connective, muscular, nervous
What is a basement membrane?
A thin layer of various types of proteins that anchors the epithelium to the extracellular matrix, which is often a type of connective tissue
What are fibroblasts?
Cells found in loose connective tissue that synthesizes collagen and elastic fibers in the matrix
What are epithelial tisue?
Consists of tightly packed cells that form a continuous layer; covers surfaces and lines body cavities; also serves as a protective function, but it can also be modified to carry out secretion, absorption, excretion, and filtration
What are different kinds of epithelial tissues?
Simple, Squamous, Cuboidal, Columnar, and psuedostratified
What is negative feedback?
The primary homeostatic mechanism that keeps a variable, such as the blood glucose level, close to the particular value, or set point
