What is a notochord?
A notochord is a long supporting rod that runs through the body just below the nerve cord.
What are chordates?
Chordates are members of the phylum Chordata.
What are pharyngeal pouches?
Paired structures in the throat region.
What are the key characteristics of a chordate?
It contains a hollow nerve cord, a notochord,pharyngeal pouches and a tail extends beyond the anus.
Where are 96% of all chordate species placed?
In the subphylum vertebra and are called vertebrates.
What do most vertebrates have?
A strong supporting structure known as the vertebral column, or backbone.
In the vertebrate the dorsal or the hollow nerve cord is called what?
Spinal cord.
What is a vertebrae?
A individual segment of the backbone; It encloses and protects the spinal cord.
What occurs when a vertebrate embryo develops?
The front end of the spinal cord grows into the brain.

Nonliving material
