Who’s Muhammad
Born in 570 ad in Mecca, the prophet Muhammad was believed to be the final messenger of God and the founder of the Islam religion
Muslim
A derivative of the two words “Muhammad” and “Islam” westernized to Moslem
Define holy/Nobel Quran
The dental book of Islam consisting of 114 chapters developed through the visits of the archangel Gabriel to the prophet Muhammad. Simple the Quran or Koran in western nations
Hijab
Dressing modestly within the Islamic religion; it often refers directly to the veil that covers the head and chest of a Muslim woman
Sunni
The truth path of Allah and the largest of the two primary Muslim traditions within Islam
Shi’a or Shiite
One of the two primary Muslim traditions stemming from the shi’at or the party of Ali. Followers of the shi’a tradition believe that Ali and as given a divine right of successorship to lead the Muslim community after the death of prophet Muhammad
Abu bakr
The 1st caliph or ruler of Arabia and the leader of the Muslim community after the death of the prophet Muhammad
Ummah
The worldwide community of the Islamic faith
Hadith
A collection of the words and deeds of prophet Muhammad, his closest companions, and the views of luminary Islamic scholars and religious figures within the Islamic faith
Mecca
The holiest city in the religion of Islam, located in southwest Saudi Arabia near the Red Sea. The birthplace of the prophet Muhammad and the focus of the hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca
Kaaba
According to Islam the alter of Abraham (built by Abraham and his son ishmael) and the focus of hajj, or the pilgrimage to Mecca
Jihad
Derived from the holy Quran, the word jihad represents the internal struggle to overcome adversity and difficulty in submitting to the will of Allah (God). Perverted historically by Islamic fundamentalists to mean holy war
