Chapter 3- Practical Flashcards

1
Q

Density test
Most dense
Least dense
Reason

A

Led
Cork
Led is the most dense as it has the largest mass due to the particles being very close together, meaning that no air can get in to make it lighter.
Cork is the least dense as there are lots of holes in it meaning that air can get in it easily and makes it lighter.

Q

Conduction test:
Best conductor of heat
Worst conductor of heat
Reason

A

Copper
Wood
Copper as the particles are close together meaning that when the particles heat up the particles vibrate and can pass on the heat quickly as they are closer together.
Wood is a bad conductor of heat as the particles are further apart than in copper so the heat can’t pass it on as quickly.

Q

Conduction of electricity test:
Most conductive
Least conductive
Reason

A

Copper
Glass
Copper is the best as the particles are close together meaning that the electricity can flow through it easily. Glass is the worst as the particles are spread out meaning that the electricity can’t easily flow through it.

Q

Malleability test
Most
Least
Reason

A

Copper
Iron
Copper is the best as it has a high boiling and melting point meaning that it is easy to Bend and mould. Iron is the worst as it is brittle and hard meaning that it is hard to mould and bend.
