What is the definition of the circulatory system?
a process by which substances is transported around the body
What is the human circulatory system made up of?
heart, blood vessels
What is the function of the heart?
pumps blood to all parts of the body
What is the function of arteries and veins respectively?
arteries - transport blood away from the heart
veins - transport blood towards the heart
Which artery receives freshly pumped blood?
carotid artery
What is a heart?
an organ made up of cardiac muscles
Why does the left side of the heart have thicker and more muscular walls?
The left side of the heart needs strong contractions to pump blood at high pressure to send blood to all parts of the body.
Into which chamber does blood from the lungs flow?
left atrium/left upper chamber
Which two chambers in the heart contain deoxygenated blood?
top and bottom left chamber
What is the function of the valves inside the heart?
to keep blood moving in one direction
