What are the major categories of government-sponsored health insurance are?
Medicare, Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Military Health Health Care, Indian Health Service (IHS), and Worker’s Compensation.
What is Medicare?
A federal program for people over 65 or individuals with disabilities, those receiving Social Security benefits or those in end stance renal disease.
What is Medicaid?
Provides coverage for individuals of limited income and resources.
What is Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)?
Give insurance and preventive care to uninsured American children.
Can those children come from working families that earn too much to be eligible for Medicaid but can’t afford private insurance?
Yes.
What are the two different health insurance options?
TRiCARE and CHAMPVA.
What is TRICARE?
A health care program for active duty, retired uniformed members and their families.
What is CHAMPVA?
A health care coverage for spouses, widows and children of veterans with disabilities that are entirely service-related.
What is Indian Health Service (IHS)
A health care coverage for Native (North) American individuals and First Nations Peoples who live in Alaska.
What is Worker’s Compensation?
A plan mandated by state governments requiring employers to cover employees who get sick or injured on the job.
