Identity
Combines a person’s sense of self (sometimes described as ‘personal identity’) − who you think you are − and how society perceives you.
Self
Everything that makes a person and distinguishes them from other people.
Social identities
An identity given by connections to other people and social situations (often contrasted with personal identity).
Stereotypes
A widely held, but fixed and oversimplified, image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
In-groups
People who are categorised as belonging to the same social, ethnic or age group.
Out-groups
People who are categorised as not belonging to the same social, ethnic or age group.
Discrimination
The unequal treatment of groups identified on the basis of difference, for example race and ethnicity, class, gender, age and disability.
