Chapter 3 - Cells Flashcards
Cell membrane
Regulates transport of substances into and out of the cell
Cytoplasm
Provides an organized eatery environment in which life functions take place by the activities of the organelles contained within the cytoplasm
Nucleus
Controls the cellular activities and facilitates cell division.
Nuclear membrane
Regulates transport of substances into and out of the nucleus
Nucleoplasm
Protoplasm inside the nucleus around the chromatin and the nucleoli
Nucleoli/Nucleolus
Contains ribosomes, composed of RNA and protien
Ribosomes
Where protein synthesis happens
Endoplasmic reticulum
Provides passages through which transport of substances can occur in the cytoplasm
Mitochondria
Cellular respiration. Where ATP is created and stored
Golgi apparatus
Manufactures carbohydrates and packages secretions for discharge from the cell
Lysosomes
Centers for Cellular digestion
Peroxisomes
Use enzymes to help digest/oxidize cell substances
Centrosome and centrioles
Functional during cell division
Cytoskeleton
Internal framework
Cilia and flagella
Hairlike protrusions that beat and vibrate to create movement
