Chapter 3 Cell Cycle Flashcards
What are the divisions of interphase?
G1, S, G2
What happens during interphase?
cell carries on life process, grows, DNA replicates during S-phase
What happens during prophase?
nuclear envelope dissolves, chromatin forms into chromosomes, centrioles migrate to poles
What happens during metaphase?
chromosomes align at equator of cell, spindle fibers attach to centromeres
What happens during anaphase?
spindle fibers shorten, chromatids are pulled toward the poles
What happens during telophase?
chromosomes uncoil, nuclear envelope forms around each chromatin mass, cleavage furrow begins to form
What happens after cytokinesis?
two new daughter cells are formed, each continues cycle in interphase
What divides during mitosis?
the nucleus
Where does transcription occur?
in the nucleus; mRNA is made from segment of the DNA template (gene)
Where does translation occur?
on a ribosome in the cytoplasm; amino acids are linked together according to the mRNA code
