What is latitude
the distance of any point north or south of the equator, measured up to 90 degrees
What is longitude
the distance of any point east or west of the Prime Meridian, measured up to 180 degrees
What are Canada’s 3 geographic regions
Canadian Shield , Interior Plains and Western Mountains
What is the Canadian Shield
Made up of igneous rock
It weathered and eroded into an exposed rocky landscape that we know today
What are the interior plains
It covers almost all of Alberta
Layers of sedimentary rock make up the plains
Deposits of fossil fuels exist there
What are the Western Mountains
Parallel mountain ranges separated by a series of valleys
It is rich in minerals
How are Earthquakes or Tsunamis caused
Tectonic plates will collide and pull against each other
What does a Richter scale do
It measures the power of the earthquake
What is igneous rock?
rock that has been formed by the solidification of molten material
What is metamorphic rock?
rock changed from its original form into another form through heat and pressure
What is sedimentary rock?
rock made up of sediment laid down in layers which have grown together
What factors affect temperature
