Chapter 3 Flashcards
Reflexive
a=a (3.1)
Equivalence relation
A relation that is reflexive, symmetric, and transitive (3.1)
Symmetric
If a=b, then b=a (3.1)
Transitive
If a=b and b=c, then a=c (3.1)
Coordinate
Point on a line that is the corresponds to the point (3.2)
Distance
Two points A and B is the absolute value of the difference of their coordinates. Distance between points A and B is denoted by AB, given by AB = |a-b| (3.2)
Bisector
(Of) a segment is a curve that intersects the segment only at the midpoint
(3.3)
Congruent segments
Segments that have that have the same length. The symbol * is used for congruent segments (3.3)
*~
=
Perimeter
The distance around a closed curve (3.4)
Circumference
The distance around a circle (3.4)
Inscribed polygon
A polygon whose vertices are part of the circle (3.5)
Inscribed angle
An angle whose vertex is on a circle and whose sides each contain another point of the circle (3.5)
Tangent line(or tangent)
A line in the plane of a circle that intersects the circle in exactly one point (3.5)
Point of tangency
The point at which a tangent line and a circle intersect (3.5)
Tangent segment
A segment of a tangent line that contains the point of tangency (3.5)
