Ethnocentrism
Ethnocentrism is the belief that one’s own culture, ethnic group, or nation is superior to others
Use ones culture as a basis for evaluating or judging other cultures overt or subtle
Ideology
a set of ideas and beliefs that provides the basis for political and economic actions
Dominant ideology
a set of thoughts and beliefs that justify and perpetuate the ruling class
Critical race theory
culture as a means if perpetuating the dominance of white people or white privilege
Dominant Culture
The culture that through its political and economic power is able to impose its values, language and ways of behaving and interpreting behaviour on a given society
SUBCULTURE
Distinctive set of cultural beliefs and behaviours that differ in some significant way, but are not necessarily opposed to dominant culture
Mass culture
standardized commercial and media product of the culture industry produced for masses
Culture Capital

Cultural capital is a body of knowledge, ideas, tastes, preferences, and social skills that are needed to appreciate certain elements of high culture
Help people get ahead socially
Often includes learning about and taking part in high culture
Marks one’s cultural status

Social Capital
Social capital highlights the importance of social relationships and networks in enhancing individual and collective well-being, promoting social cohesion, and contributing to the overall functioning of society.
