What is loss?
The experience of separation from something of personal importance
What is grief?
Deep mental and emotional anguish that is a response to the subjective experience of loss of something significant.
What are the five stages of of Grief
I. denial
- anger
- bargaining
- depression
- acceptance
What is anticipatory grieving?
feelings and emotions associated with the normal grief response before the loss actually occurs.
What is delayed grief?
failure or the mourning process. (may prevent assimilation of the loss and thereby delay a return to satisfying living)
What is hospice?
a program that provides palliative and supportive care to meet the special needs of people who are dying and their families.
What is an advance directive?
living will or durable power of attorney (health care proxy)
