What is battering?
A pattern of coercive control founded on and supported by physical /or sexual violence or threat of violence of an intimate partner
What are signs of physical abuse?
unexplained burns, bites, bruises, broken bones, or black eyes
Had fading bruises or other marks noticeable after an absence from school
Seems frightened of the parents and protests or cries when it is time to go home
Shrinks at the approach of adults
Reports injury by a parent or another adult caregiver
abuses animals or pets
What are signs of emotional abuse?
Shows extremes in behavior, such as overly compliant or demanding behavior, extreme passively, or aggression.

What is physical neglect of a child look like?
includes refusal of or delay in seeking health care, abandonment, expulsion from the home or refusal to allow a runaway to return home, and inadequate supervision
What does emotional neglect in a child?
chronic failure by parent or caregiver to provide the child with the hope, love, and support necessary for the development of a sound, healthy, personality.
What is incest?
The occurrence of sexual contacts or interaction between or sexual exploitation of, close relatives or between participants who are related to each other by a kinship bond that is regarded as a prohibition to sexual relations
What is rape?
The expression of power and dominance by means of sexual violence, most commonly by men over women, although men may also by rape victims
What is date rape (aka acquaintance rape)?
is a term applied to situations in which the rapist is acquainted with the victim.
What is martial rape?
spouse may be held liable for sexual abuse directed at a martial partner against that person’s will.
What is statutory rape?
unlawful intercourse between a person who is over the age of consent and a person who is under the age of consent.
After rape, the victim goes through someone called “rape trauma syndrome” There are two ways that it can go: Either the patient uses expressed response pattern or controlled response pattern. What are the difference?
Expressed: survivor expresses feelings of fear, anger, anxiety, through such behaviors as crying, sobbing, restlessness, and tension.
Controlled: feelings are masked or hidden, and a calm, composed, or subdued affect is seen
What is compounded rape reaction?
add’t symptoms such as depression and suicide, substance abuse, and even psychotic behaviors may be noted
What is silent rape reaction?
survivor tells no one about the assault.
Sharon, a woman with multiple cuts and abrasions arrives at the ER with her 3 small children. She tells the nurse her husband inflicted these wounds on her, She says, “I didn’t want to come .
