aggression
action or behavior that results in a verbal or physical attack; not always innapropriate and sometimesnecessary for self-protection
anger
emotional response to frustration of desires, a threat to one’s needs or a challenge. it can be used as a motivator in survival but problems begin when anger is expressed through aggression or violence
restraint
any manual method, physical or mechanical device, material or equipment that immobilizes or reduces the ability of a pt to move the arm, legs body or head freely.
seclusion
involuntary confinement of a pt alone in a room, or area from which the pt is physically prevented from leaving. The goal is safety of the pt and others
trauma-informed care
it focuses on the pt’s past experiences of violence or trauma and the rol it currently plays in their lives
validation therapy
therapeutic modality that is typically used for older adults and focuses on emotional themes rather than content
violence
it is always an objectionable act that invovles intentional use of force that results in, or has the potential to result in, injury to another person
