Chapter 24 -5 Flashcards
What are similarities and differences b/w monocot and eudicot stem structures?
both green leafy covering, starch storing ground tissue, xylem & phloem
differences M: X & P scattered in the stem
differences E: X & P in circle around outside of stem
What are the characteristics of perennial eudicot stem structures?
epidermis cork cambium cortex phloem vascular cambium xylem rings
What are the structures of roots?
(longitudinal) root hair elongation meristem root cap
Lateral dicot root structures consist of?
epidermis
root hairs
What are root hairs?
filaments that extend from the epidermis of the root. Absorb 95% of plant’s water and nutrients
What does the epidermis do?
w/ root hairs to absorb water & minerals & acid producing cells to protect root from bacteria & fungi
What does ground tissue consist of?
cortex
endodermis
pericycle
Transpiration aka?
water transport
Translocation aka?
sugar transport
Cohesion Tension Theory goes with?
translocation
Pressure Flow Theory goes with?
transpiration
