What was Jesus doing while in the desert and why?
He prayed to his Father and fasted as a sign of his obedience. Jesus was preparing for his public life among the people.
What message did Jesus preach after he was in the desert?
“This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
What is the gospel?
The Good News about God at work in Jesus Christ.
What is the Kingdom of God?
The power of God’s love coming into the world and into our lives.
When did the Kingdom of God come?
The Kingdom of God into the world with the coming of God the Son.
What were the Jewish people waiting for?
The fulfillment of God’s promises and God’s Kingdom.
What was God considered as in the Old Testament?
He was considered the King of the universe and King of Israel.
What was Jesus saying when he said that the Kingdom of God is near?
He said:
1: Jesus is God, and God’s presence and rule can be
found in his words and actions.
2: freedom from sin and the gift of God’s life of grace
are offered to everyone.
3: by living in God’s presence and for the Kingdom,
people can begin to live in God’s life, the very life that
we believe is life with God forever.
What was Jesus’ mission?
To share the life of God his Father with all people and to reconcile all people to God.
What did Jesus’ miracles signify?
They signified that Jesus was not only human, but divine.
What did Jesus’ message give people?
It gave people hope.
What did Jesus teach on the Sermon on the Mount?
Jesus told people how to live as his disciples.
What did Jesus say in the first part of the Sermon on the Mount?
Jesus taught the people about the meaning of true happiness and the way to achieve that happiness. Jesus said that people would be happy only if they trusted in God and lived as he did.
What do we call the teachings that describe the way to live as Jesus’ disciples?
We call them the Beatitudes.
