Chapter 2 - Where to Start Flashcards
Discussion Section
The discussion section of an APA paper reviews the research from many perspectives, examining if the results support the hypothesis (and giving all possible explanations, and discussing why one is better, if this is the case) or if they do not (and if so, why not?). This can also discuss how the results compare with past research and suggest applications of the research or further avenues of research.
Abstract
An abstract is a summary of a research report and typically runs no more than 120 words in length, including information about the hypothesis, procedure, and general pattern of results of the study.
Hypothesis
A hypothesis is an assertion about what is true in a particular situation; often, a statement asserting that two or more variables are related to one another.
Introduction Section
The introduction section of an APA research paper outlines the problem that has been investigated and describes past research and theories. The expectations of the researcher are noted as formal hypotheses.
Literature Review
A literature review is an article that summarizes the research in a particular area.
Method Section
The method section of an APA research paper is divided into subsections. The first subsection presents an overview of the design of the study. The second describes the participants, while the third describes the procedure of the study. Other subsections may be used as necessary.
Prediction
A prediction is an assertion concerning what will occur in a particular research investigation.
PsycINFO
