Q

what are the five principals of pressure

A
  1. pascals law- pressure any point in a liquid is applied equally in every direction
  2. pressure applied on a confined liquid from an external source will be transmitted equally in all directions, without a reduction in magnitude
  3. pressure created by liquid in an open container directly proportional to the depth of the liquid
  4. pressure created by liquid in an open container is proportional to the density of the liquid
  5. pressure at the bottom of the container is not affected by the shape or volume of the container

Q

give an example of Pascal’s law

A

pressure exerted by the weight of the fluid in an open glass container will exert a force down as well as against the walls of the container

Q

give an example of the second principle of pressure

A

water in a container with a compressible lid that is forced down will exert a pressure down, but since water is incompressible the pressure is equally distributed in the all directions

Q

give an example of the third principle of pressure

A

pressure in an open vessel from 1 foot of water equals .433, and 2 feet of water .866 and so on

Q

what is the difference between head and head pressure

A
  • head pressure is the amount of pressure created by the height of the column of water.. inverse of head
  • head is pressure expressed in units of feet of water
