Chapter 2- Units Of Measurement Flashcards
What are SI measurements?
Standards of measurement
What is a quantity?
Something that has magnitude size or amount.
SI units of
- mass?
- length?
- volume?
Mass: kilogram
Length: meter
Volume: cubic meters
What is mass?
The measure if the quantity of matter.
What is weight?
A measure of the gravitational pull on matter.
What does a combination of SI base units form?
Derived units
What is volume?
The amount of space occupied by an object.
What is the formula for density?
Mass/volume
What is the formula for mass?
Density x volume
What is the formula for volume?
Mass/density
V=L•W•H
What is a conversion factor?
Ratio derived from the equality between 2 different units that can be used to convert from 1 unit to another.
(4 quarters=1dollar)
What is the Scientific Method?
A logical approach to solving problems by observing and collecting data, formulating a hypothesis, texting the hypothesis, and forming theories to support the data.
What is a measurement that is;
- qualitative?
- quantitative?
Qualitative: doesn’t need a size or an amount, it’s a description.
Quantitative: has a size or an amount that can be measured.
What is a theory?
Broad generalization that explains a body of facts.
What is a model?
Explanation on how something occurred.
