Chapter 2 - Understanding the Components of Cisco Unified Communications Flashcards
Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM)
The multiserver call processing platform that is able to support up to 30,000 users per cluster.
Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME)
The call processing platform that is able to support up to 250 users (depending on router hardware)
Cisco Unity Connection
The single-server unified messaging platform that is capable of supporting up to 7,500 users
Cisco Unified Presence
Provides status and reachability information for the users of the voice network
Automatic Call Distribution (ACD)
A device or service that automatically reroutes calls to customers in geographically distributed locations served by the same central office (CO)
Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP)
Cisco proprietary voice-signaling protocol used to control Cisco IP phones
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
Voice-signaling protocol created by the IETF as a lightweight alternative to H.323
Realtime Transport Protocol (RTP)
The UDP-based protocol responsible for transporting audio packets; uses random, even-numbered ports from 16,384 to 32,767 for communications
Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP)
Provides VOIP trunk connectivity to the PSTN to provide a cost savings over traditional telephony service provider (TSP).
Digital Signal Processor (DSP)
A chip that performs all the sampling, encoding, and compression functions on audio (and, in current hardware, video, too) coming into your router.
Cisco Unity Express (CUE)
The unified messaging platform that is integrated into a Cisco Unified CME router; capable of supporting up to 250 users
Interactive Voice Response (IVR)
An automated system that provides a recorded, automated process to callers accessing your voice network
CUCM Publisher
CUCM server that maintains the only writable copy of the database and serves TFTP requests
CUCM Subscriber
CUCM servers (up to 19) that maintain read-only copies of the database. Up to 8 can be call-processing servers, the rest perform dedicated roles such as TFTP server, conference bridges, music on hold, or annunciator servers.
Intracluster Communication Signaling (ICCS)
Method for communicating between all Cisco Unified servers in the voice network
Voice Profile for Internet Mail (VPIM)
A feature that allows one voicemail system to exchange messages with another voicemail system
Cisco Unified Personal Communicator
Cisco Unified Personal Communicator is a multimedia application that provides instant access from your desktop to integrated audio calls, enterprise instant messaging, visual voicemail, your corporate directory, video, and web conferencing. Cisco Unified Personal Communicator delivers an intuitive user interface, wide-band audio, and high-definition video.
CUCM Key Features
1) Full support for audio and video telephony, 2) Appliance-based operation, 3) VMware installation, 4) Redundant server cluster, 5) Intercluster and voice gateway control and communication, 6) Built-in disaster recovery system (DRS), 7) Directory service support or integration
CUCM Publisher & Subscriber roles & relationships
1) Informix DB, 2) 1-way push, 3) Publisher holds master copy of DB, 4) changes are implemented on the Publisher, 5) change replicated from the Publisher to the Subscriber(s)
Difference between a primary CUCM server and the Publisher server
1) Publisher maintains writable copy of the DB, 2) Primary CUCM server receives off-hook message and responds accordingly
CUC maximum mailbox count
20,000 mailboxes maximum whether on standalone or Active-Active server pair
Method used to route incoming calls to CUC server from CUCM
1) Incoming call from PSTN arrives at voice gateway; voice gateway routes call to CUCM, 2) CUCM receives the call and directs it to the appropriate IP phone; if no answer, directs call to CUC, 3) CUCM transfers call to CUC; extension of originally called phone is contained in signaling messages
CME capactity and platform
Max 450 phones; Runs on ISR router
CUCM capacity and platform
Max 40,000 phones per cluster; Runs on UCS/VMware appliance platform
IMP capacity and platform
Max 45,000 users with CUCM cluster integration; Runs on UCS / WMwad platform
CUC capacity and platform
Max 20,000 mailboxes; Runs on UCS / WmWare wppleance
